When the Winter weather hits Middlesex County, where do you go to find warmth? The answer is obvious, and for these evolving pest populations, the answer is the same… YOUR HOME! Termites

The common misconception we see in Middlesex and Hillsborough County is that termites are only warm weather pests. There are various species of termites that look to infiltrate your home in the Fall so they can set up shelter and reproduce. Once they are established, these colonies grow rapidly and cause problems in January and February. Make sure you stay on watch for warning signs in your flooring and drywall.

Mice and Rats

  • Mice can fit into holes the size of a quarter or even a little smaller in some cases.
  • They reproduce during the Winter months and a single female mouse can birth up to 300 live young in her lifetime.
  • Their droppings can often be mistaken for dried dirt.
  • They chew through wires and insulation so this could be a warning sign of their presence.
  • Rat droppings will be easier to spot. They are often the size of a small pebble and will be dark (almost black) in color.

Bedbugs

Bedbugs are more common during the Winter season because that is when people are traveling the most. People from Massachusetts head to the Caribbean or Florida to escape the cold and they don’t realize what they are bringing home. They cling to luggage, clothing and towels and they are extremely resistant to temperature so they often survive the trip home. Don’t put your luggage on the bed when you arrive at your location, the floor is safer!
