Pests love a messy kitchen. There are crumbs everywhere for them to eat and plenty of drawers and papers to submerge themselves in. This WAS the case in 2016, but 2017 is a new year! Keep your kitchen crumb-free and throw out the mail you don’t need to help keep your home absent of pests.
Seal Cracks
Are you starting off the new year with a plumbing or HVAC project? If so, make sure you harp on the fact that the technician needs to seal up his entry points. Even penny sized holes can be compromised, so you’ll also want to do a once over after the job is complete.
Use Essential Oils
Lemon Eucalyptus and Peppermint oils smell fantastic, but not for all members of the animal kingdom. Pests like mice prefer damp, foul-smelling environments and these oils can help blow up their spot. Try spraying them in common pest areas like drawers and cabinets and monitor your results.
Patch Up Leaks
What do we NEED to survive? The three common ingredients are food, water and shelter and the same goes for pests. If you can eliminate their water source (a broken pipe or leaking faucet), they’ll look elsewhere for shelter.
Trim Your Trees
Attic pests like squirrels and raccoons need a way to get to your roof and too many people make it easy for them. With their claws, these pests can scale trees and then use their branches as a bridge to your roof. Well, cut off the bridge! You should trim your trees and leave more than 10 feet of space between the end of the branches and the roof of your home.
