Memorial Day marks the official start of Summer in the northeast and in Massachusetts, we love to celebrate ‘Merica. People all over Middlesex County will be taking the grill and serving up some good eats, but we want to urge caution. We all know what Zika Virus is at this point, and we need to protect our properties and family members from any potential harm. Here are some things to keep in mind when you host your BBQ this weekend»

Special Candles
Mosquito repellent candles are not anything new, and they’re not always effective, but they can provide some relief on a non-windy day. The mosquitoes are deterred by the scent and by the citronella in the candle but you have to be strategic about where you place them. Use the wind to your advantage!

Cutter Products
We tend to recommend the name brands protection because they have been proven to work more effectively over long periods of time. Cutter makes repellent wipes, sprays, clip- ons and candles for you to buy at your local Wal-Mart. These little helpers can make a big difference this Memorial Day Weekend!

Food Cages
If you have dishes that are going to be exposed for a long period of time without eating, it might be best to ‘lock them up.’ They make small, mesh nets that fit over trays and plates to keep bugs away while you wait for a second course. These cages can maintain sanitation and give you peace of mind about the food you’re ingesting this weekend. Enjoy the burgers and dogs!

Serve Indoors
It might be best to avoid eating serving outside altogether. We understand that it is Memorial Day tradition, but with all the diseases threatening the mosquito population, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Leaving a tray of salty and savory barbecue out on the deck is practically sending an invitation to mosquitoes to cue their attack.

Drink Responsibly
There is a common myth floating around out there that makes people believe mosquitoes actually like to have a few cocktails. They actually don’t like alcohol, due to the fact that it is a poison. They are attracted to the sugar in beer, and they absolutely love when you spill it and leave it uncleaned. This is like a feast! Drink responsibly and be sure to clean up after yourself if you happen to get a little loose with your drink.

Our mosquito treatment is designed to be applied during the peak of their season. Beginning around May 6th through the end of September. Pest Control Unlimited has the ability to control up to 90-95% of the mosquitoes around your property.
