They Like it Sticky

Mosquitoes are more prominent in the Southern United States because of the year round heat and moisture. Scientists say mosquitoes operate and are the most hyper at temperatures close to 80°F. Too hot and they prefer to stay dormant. Too cold and they could die. They rely on a cooperative habitat to survive.

Don’t Allow Rain to Pool

The rain itself doesn’t necessarily bring mosquitoes, but what happens after the rain is actually the problem. Pooling of standing water will serve as a birthing ground for these pests if you allow it. Here is what you need to know:

  • Turn over all garbage cans and pails before the rain.
  • Dump out any water that gathers in a bird bath or something of the nature.
  • Routinely change and clean bird bath water.
  • Ponds and fountains need to be treated.

The Early Life of Mosquitoes

For the first 10-14 days of a mosquitoes life, they remain in water as they grow into a fully mature adult. This is where rain can actually hurt the mosquito population. As water levels rise and as the splashing of raindrops occurs, it disrupts the growth of these very small insects. Being hit with a raindrop to them would be like being hit with a giant water balloon for us. Rain can be good and bad for these annoying pests.   Our mosquito treatment is designed to be applied during the peak of their season. Beginning around May 6th through the end of September. Pest Control Unlimited has the ability to control up to 90-95% of the mosquitoes around your property. If you’d like to schedule treatment, call (888) 649-9919 or click around on our website!
