As the summer settles down and the cool breeze of fall begins to set in during the coming months it’s the perfect time to pack up a picnic and head to your local family park. The only problem is, how will you keep the picnic pests at bay? Here are a few great tips to help you repel ants, flies, mosquitoes and other outdoor pests from trying to ruin your family outing.

Light up those candles.. citronella of course! Whether you’re picnicking at a local park, beach or even in your very own yard, bringing some citronella candles along can make a huge difference. The smell of the burning oil will deter mosquitoes in up-to a five-mile radius. We suggest you light more than one for added protection.

Set up a fan, and don’t forget the batteries. Blow flying insects like flies and mosquitoes away with a battery-operated fan. Since it’s portable you can bring it anywhere you like! What’s more, you’ll not only enjoy a bug-free picnic but a cool breeze as well.

Create a decoy with some red wine. While you’re enjoying a romantic picnic for two, sacrifice a bit of the bottle for the fruit flies. Pouring some red wine into a cup, and setting it a few feet from your site will draw the flies toward the wine and away from you.

Use cornstarch to keep the ants away. Sprinkling a bit of cornstarch around your picnic area will create a barrier that ants will not want to permeate. If they try to eat the cornstarch, they will not be able to digest it properly and will eventually die.

Follow these simple rules and enjoy a bug-free day of fun in the sun!
