If you have a pet, you know that they’re just like any other member of the family. You love them, you play with them, and you need to keep them safe when they can’t protect themselves. One of the dangers of our industry is that sometimes pets can get into an area that is sprayed with pesticides before the application has dried and been ventilated. To combat this, try and follow these precautions if you know that your property is being sprayed with pesticides.

  • Try leaving your pet with a friend or relative for a few days while the application settles in. If you only leave them with the sitter for a few hours, by the time they return the application might not be fully settled.
  • Make sure all beds, toys, food and any kind of dresswear you use for your pet is outside the application area. Pesticides can stick to these items and if the pet has interaction with them, they could become sick.
  • If you’re a fish lover, make sure you cover the tank to prevent dangerous vapors from entering the water. You should also turn off the tank’s filter during the application process.
  • Keep a close eye on your dog or cat in the weeks following a pesticide spray. If they happen to eat a mouse or insect that was poisoned, they could contract secondary poisoning which is still threatening.
