The fall season is approaching and that means mice will make their way indoors to find shelter. This leaves you with the task of making sure they aren’t around for long. Sure you could try chasing them around with a stick for exercise, but these DIY mouse traps are way more practical.

The Spinning Can
If you need to protect a vacation home or hunting cabin, this is the perfect trap for you. Take one of your old painting buckets and drill a hole through the middle. Give the mice access to the hole by attaching a ramp to its entrance. After you have done this, string a coffee can across the gap and place some peanut butter on the far end. When the mice run for the treat, they’ll spin off the can and remain trapped in your bucket.

The Flipping Plate
This one is similar to the trap above. You will need a painting bucket, a ramp and a Styrofoam plate. Run the handle of the can through the plate and leave one edge resting on the rim of the bucket. Attach a ramp so the mice have access and add peanut butter to the far end of the plate. As the mice walk across, their weight will transition to the unsupported side of the plate and they’ll fall into the bucket.

The Counter-Top Trick
Take an empty toilet paper roll and crease one side so it can lay flat across your counter-top. Balance it so that half of the roll is on the counter and half is off. Once you have found the sweet spot, place some peanut butter at the end of the roll with a trash bin underneath. The mice will go for the free snack and find themselves all wrapped up moments later. It is simple, cheap and efficient.
