Though the mosquitoes tend to recede as the weather cools down, a whole new array of outdoor pests begin to surface. From plant killing critters to unwelcome house guests, there are a ton of fall and winter pests that are on their way to your home as the summer comes to a close. To keep your property healthy and pest-free this fall, make sure to look out for these 5 common critters.

Lawn Grubs: If your lawn is beginning to develop patchy brown spots, this could be an indicator that grubs have invaded your territory. Lawn grubs feed on your grass roots, killing of your lawn one blade at a time. Other indicators include skunks, raccoons or birds searching for food within your lawn and soil.

Stink Bugs: As the weather cools down, these smelly critters begin searching for a cozy indoor crawl space to tough it out for the winter. Remember that if you’ve had stink bugs before, the chances of them returning again are high, so keep an eye out for brown or circular yellow spots on your fruits!

Slugs and Snails: The first indicator that a slug or snail has been close to home is the slimy, silver trail that it left behind. You may also notice that matured plants have bite marks between the veins of their leaves, or that young seedlings are eaten altogether overnight.

Webworms: Aptly named, these tiny caterpillars are known for spinning silk webs in your trees, attaching branches and creating a pocket to nest in as they go. As their colony grows, their webs will expand from the inside out, taking over more and more of the innocent tree that they’ve decided to call home.

Yellow Jackets: If you thought you were done with these stinging pests once the summer subsided, think again! Yellow Jackets become most aggressive in the late summer early fall, so keep your eyes peeled for their brightly colored bodies and papery nests.
