Summer sun is just around the bend, which means the ants will soon be marching in. While these tiny soldiers are typically not an issue outdoors, when they begin to take up residence inside the home is when the real problem occurs. If you find that you’re seeing a few too many ants scurrying across your kitchen counters and up your walls, here’s an easy DIY method to help keep them at bay.

Step #1: Create your repellent. With just 1 teaspoon of boric acid, 6 tablespoons of sugar and 2 cups of water, you’ll be on your way to repelling ants in no time. Just mix the ingredients together and allow cotton balls to soak in the DIY bait solution.

Step #2: Build your bait dispensers. Place your solution-soaked cotton balls inside old Tupperware containers and punch holes in the lids before covering. This will allow ants to get inside your DIY trap!

Step #3: Set your traps. Pay close attention to where your ant trails commonly appear — whether inside the house or out. Wherever your ants are marching, that’s where you want to place your traps. That way, they’ll pick up the boric acid and carry it back to the nest.

For best results, clean out your traps and re-bait them once a week. Should you choose to employ this DIY baiting method, make sure to keep boric acid away from pets and children. While it’s toxicity levels are minimal, boric acid can still cause irritation of the skin, mouth, stomach, and eyes.

If your ant problem is too large for a DIY fix, or you’d rather leave the pest control to the pros, remember that Pest Control Unlimited is just one phone call away!
