It’s true, there are actually some critters that can be beneficial to your garden! Attracting pollinators, like honeybees, birds and butterflies, promotes plant reproduction and growth throughout your landscape. These fluttering friends are so important that the U.S. Department of Agriculture actually declared an entire week in June as National Pollinator Week! Since pollinators are crucial to the well-being of your garden, you’ll want to take these three steps to help attract them to your home:

1. Position your garden properly. Plants need sunlight and water, and so do pollinators! No matter if you’re looking to grow a gigantic vegetable garden, a small flowerbed, or a window box full of herbs, as long as your project receives plenty of water and sunlight the pollinators will come.

2. Keep it native and natural. The best way to attract pollinators in your region is to use plants that are native to your environment. Some plants, like lavender, sage or catnip, flourish in a variety of climates so they’re a good start. 3. Plant in clusters. Planting like plants together will create a strong target for pollinators to land, feed and inevitably pollinate. You’ll want to maximize your flower and color variety to attract as many pollinators as possible.
