Massachusetts is home to the Red Sox, Paul Revere and so much rich American history. Unfortunately, it is also home to over 300 different species of insects who have grown and adapted with the climate. Here are just a few of the insects that call our great state home.

The American Cockroach
This roach has been living in the Massachusetts area since the days of Paul Revere. They are extremely resistant to temperature changes and they tend to stay hidden from human view. The only problem with these guys is their feces can cause asthma-related symptoms in humans.

Bed Bug
We know bed bugs as the little critters that mess with our sleep. But did you know they are also considered parasites to birds and bats? These flat little creatures can bite and their saliva causes an irritation on our skin. That is why it is important to maintain your linens and call a pest control professional at the first sign of trouble.

Blue-Winged Wasp
These wasps are originally from Japan, but they have made the adjustment to the Northeastern United States quite nicely. They’ll sting when provoked, and their ability to nest in multiple locations makes them difficult to maintain. That is a job for the professionals!

Eastern Carpenter Bee
They are easily mistaken for a bumblebee, but these creatures don’t have the ability to sting. They are great for pollination purposes, but they get their name from their infatuation with wood. If you start to notice small holes in your deck, it could be a sign that you have been overrun by carpenter bees.

Field Cricket
Cricket season is drawing to a close, but what an annoyance these little guys can be over the summer. They’re native to the state of Massachusetts and those warm summer nights draw them closer and closer to your home. They tend to hide in brush or tall grass so you want to keep these areas of your property maintained.
