With all the things there are to do in a day, fending off pests doesn’t usually make the list. Most people leave that work to the professionals because it is not an area that many people are well versed in. At Pest Control Unlimited, we understand the business and we would be happy to answer any questions you might have for us. Here are just a few of the most common questions we hear on our visits:

How do you control termites?
Termites are not an easy pest to eliminate. While they’re small in stature, they make up for it with their resiliency and ability to work together. In most cases, they have already dug through the foundation of your home before you even realize they are there. As a homeowner, the first thing you can do is keep firewood away from your home. In addition to that, try and eliminate moisture in the areas of your basement and crawl space that you don’t typically use. The last step would be to call in the professionals. Our technicians will be able to identify the type of termite you are having problems with and they’ll scan through all the possible removal methods with you.

Is there a way to prevent bed bugs?
Bed bugs can really sneak up on you– literally. They multiply quickly and if you aren’t careful, they’ll make themselves right at home in your sheets. When you come home from vacation, make sure you scan your luggage on a table or the floor rather than the bed. You can also change sheets yourself when you go on vacation or make a weekly linen cleaning schedule when you’re at home.

Can mice and cockroaches really cause asthma?
These pests can’t do it on their own, but their waste is actually what causes asthma-like symptoms in humans. Their fecal matter quickly turns to a dusty substance that enters the air and is circulated through your cooling/heating system. If you happen to see one, more could be lurking and you have to call in the professionals before it becomes a bigger problem.

Is the Zika Virus a threat to me and my family?
This was a very popular question this summer, and for good reason. The Zika Virus scare spread across the nation and left people worried that it would make its way up north to Massachusetts. While it is entirely possible that the virus could have made its way up here, it is also unlikely. As long as you kept your property treated for mosquitoes and were not out of the country, the odds are heavily in your favor.
