When people see a problem, their first reaction is to seek a solution. Well, mosquitoes are definitely a problem, and people have been trying different methods to keep them away for centuries. Let’s take a look at some of the best DIY methods we have seen to date.

2 Liter Bottle Trap
Items Needed:

  • 1 cup of water
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 gram of yeast
  • 1 2-liter bottle

What to Do:

  • Cut the bottle in half.
  • Mix brown sugar and water and pour it in the bottom half of the bottle.
  • Add yeast to the solution. This will cause it to bubble and that carbon dioxide will help attract mosquitoes.
  • Place the top half of the bottle into the lower half facing upside down. You can tape them together if you choose.
  • Leave the top uncovered, place the trap outside in a mosquito hotspot and watch the results!

Shrimp Bait Trap
Items Needed:

  • Paper Cone
  • Mason Jar
  • Shrimp
  • Wire Hanger

What to Do:

  • Take the shrimp and let it sit in the sun for a day or so.
  • Fill the mason jar halfway with water and place the paper cone in the top.
  • Drop your now rotted shrimp in the mason jar and make sure it is submerged in the water.
  • Hang the mosquito catching trap above nose level. You don’t want to smell your bait!

Beer Trap
Items Needed:

  • Beer Glass
  • Beer
  • Funnel

What To Do:

  • Mosquitoes love people who drink beer, but this trap tests out how much they really like the beer itself.
  • Fill the beer glass halfway with beer and then place the funnel into the top of the glass.
  • Coat the rim of your glass with some sugar if you want to see better results.
